Yoga

I love yoga and practice it once a week. After a busy week and lots of cardio and weights – plus of course the stresses of a busy life, my yoga class early on Saturday mornings means so much to me. It’s good for my mind and my muscles love the very deep stretching.


I totally believe in the mind-body-gut connection. If you're a bit of a stress-head like me you'll understand what I'm talking about. Stress affects these connections so practicing yoga as often as you can soothe the mind, body and soul!


A good quality yoga non-slip yoga mat is essential - especially for the relaxation part of your class!


Practicing yoga offers a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional benefits. These benefits can vary from person to person, but here are some of the advantages of incorporating yoga into your weekly routine!

Exercise has a profound impact on both the body and mental health. While it's often associated with physical benefits, such as improving cardiovascular health, building strength, and maintaining a healthy weight, regular exercise also plays a crucial role in improving mental well-being.

For me, exercise is a form of meditation. While I am at the gym, I am focused on my routine and the worries of daily life slips away. The endorphins kick in and when I get home, I am ready to face the day with positivity, energy and confidence!

So here's how exercise can positively affect your mental health.


  1. Release of Neurotransmitters: Physical activity triggers the release of neurotransmitters like endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine. Endorphins are often referred to as "feel-good" hormones because they can help alleviate pain and create a sense of euphoria. Serotonin and dopamine play key roles in regulating mood and feelings of pleasure and reward.
  2. Stress Reduction: Exercise helps reduce the levels of stress hormones like cortisol. Engaging in physical activity can provide a healthy outlet for releasing stress and tension, promoting relaxation and a more balanced emotional state.
  3. Improved Sleep: Regular exercise has been shown to improve sleep quality. Better sleep can lead to enhanced mood, cognitive function, and overall mental well-being.

I use essential oils a lot! In my office I have a blend of oils that I use in my diffuser for Focus and have others I use when I'm tense and stressed. I believe in their power and can highly recommend using them for whatever specific need you have - or even just to create some ambience in your home.

Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils extracted from various plants to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Different essential oils have distinct properties that can impact our mood, health, and overall balance. Here are 10 popular aromatherapy oils and their properties:

I have read and re-read this book. I started underlining sentences and paragraphs that I loved and that meant so much to me, but in the end I gave up - because I loved every word I read!

Values and beliefs are two important concepts that shape a person's worldview and behaviour. While they are related, they are distinct in their nature and influence on an individual. Let's explore the difference between them:

  1. Values: Values are the fundamental principles or standards that guide an individual's judgments and actions. They represent what a person considers important, worthwhile, or desirable in life. Values serve as a moral compass and help individuals make decisions and prioritize their actions. These can be deeply ingrained and are often influenced by cultural, social, religious, and personal factors.

    Examples of values include:
  • Honesty: The belief in being truthful and sincere in interactions with others.
  • Respect: Treating others with consideration and dignity, regardless of differences.
  • Responsibility: Taking ownership of one's actions and obligations.
  • Compassion: Showing empathy and concern for the well-being of others.
  • Integrity: Adhering to strong moral and ethical principles.

    Values can vary from person to person, and individuals might prioritize them differently, leading to different perspectives and approaches in life.
  1. Beliefs: Beliefs are cognitive constructs that represent a person's understanding and acceptance of what they consider to be true or false. These beliefs can be based on evidence, personal experiences, upbringing, culture, or faith. Beliefs shape how individuals interpret the world around them and influence their attitudes and behaviours.

    Beliefs can be classified into two main types:
  • Descriptive Beliefs: These are beliefs about how things are or what exists in the world. For example, "The Earth is round" or "Water boils at 100°C."
  • Evaluative Beliefs: These are beliefs about what is good, bad, right, or wrong. For example, "Hard work leads to success" or "Stealing is morally wrong."

    Beliefs can be both rational and irrational, and they are not always grounded in objective reality. People might hold beliefs even in the absence of concrete evidence.
In summary:
Values are guiding principles that reflect what is important to an individual and influence their decisions and behaviour.
Beliefs represent an individual's understanding of what is true or false and shape their perceptions and attitudes. 
Both values and beliefs play a crucial role in shaping an individual's identity and worldview.
